Safety & Maintenance Guide for OLICRANEPARTS Drum Clamps
To ensure the longevity of your equipment and the safety of your personnel, OLICRANEPARTS recommends the following operational and maintenance protocols for all our drum lifting tongs.
Pre-Operational Inspection (Daily)
Before every lift, the operator must perform a visual safety check to confirm the integrity of the tool:
Structural Integrity: Inspect the main body, lifting rings, and chains for any signs of deformation, hair-line cracks, or stress-related wear.
Chain & Hardware: Ensure the chain links are not elongated or twisted. Check that all pins and springs are seated in their original, factory-set positions.
Grip Surfaces: Verify that the gripping jaws are clean and free of oil or debris that could compromise friction.
Operational Best Practices
Safe handling is critical to preventing load slippage or drum damage:
Load Verification: Never exceed the Rated Working Load (WLL) specified on the OLICRANEPARTS nameplate. Account for both the drum weight and its contents.
Smooth Motion Control: Avoid “shock loading.” Always lift and lower the drum at a steady, controlled pace. Rapid jerking or sudden stops can damage both the clamp and the crane.
Vertical Alignment: Ensure the hoist is positioned directly above the drum’s center of gravity to maintain a strict vertical lift.
Collision Avoidance: Maintain a clear path during transit to prevent the drum from striking racks, walls, or other machinery.
Routine Maintenance & Lubrication
A clean tool is a safe tool. Follow this schedule to extend the service life of your drum clamps:
Lubrication Cycle: Apply a high-quality light mechanical lubricant to all pivot points and moving components every 10 to 15 days of active use.
Debris Removal: Thoroughly wipe down the clamp after use in dusty or corrosive environments. Built-up grime can hide cracks and impede mechanical movement.
Storage: When not in use, store the clamps in a dry, indoor environment to prevent oxidation and spring fatigue.
